Where your money goesThere are many costs associated with keeping our elephants happy and healthy, much of which we can only provide with the help of donations. It costs us around 40,000 Baht or $1,500 per month to keep just one elephant. Some of our basic costs per month are:

• 6,000THB – Sugarcane

• 6,000THB – Grass

• 1,300THB – Pineapple bush

• 900 THB – Bananas

That’s over 14,000 THB per elephant per month in food costs alone.

Vet Costs

• 1,500THB – medicine

• 18,000THB – Vet wages and travelling expenses

Other Costs

• 6,000THB – health insurance per mahout per year.

• 15,000THB – Mahout uniforms per quarter (being a mahout is tough on clothes).

• 18,450THB – Basic mahout wage and rental per elephant per month (not including incentives,

overtime and tips).
